International Day of Forests-21st March 2025

The International Day of Forests is celebrated on 21st March of every year, this year it was held at Kalemchuch Primary School organized by GCN in partnership with Department for Refugee Services (DRS). In attendance were DRS officers led by Mr. David Ereng, Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Sub-County Director of Education (SCDE), Mr. Joseph Ochura, Windle program manager, Mr. Philemon Misoy, and the Community Policy and Protection Team under the DRS.

The activity was flagged off by Mr. Ochura, who commended the young learners for the tree planting agency and encouraged them to leave their school greener than they found it. Mr. Misoy Windle international manager reminded the learners of the benefits of the trees while encouraging them to carry the practice home. “I believe this is a continuation of something great towards greening of Turkana County,” mentioned Mr. David the environmental officer DRS. “We hope to bring up a generation of climate resilience warriors in you,” mentioned Mr. Joel Ndambuki Project coordinator, GCN. “I have made it my mission to create a lasting impact towards environmental restoration in Turkana west Subcounty,” pointed out Mr. Ochura.

A total of 400 tree seedlings were transplanted across the school compound with the activity supported by the youth learners at Kalemchuch primary, the school administration, the Green Skills Facilitator (GSF) Mr. Wesley Obara and the rest of the teachers.
