GCN is working in partnership with Trocaire, LVCT- Health, Grow and Know (GAK) and Africa’s Voices Foundation (AVF) in implementing the DREAMS Innovation Challenge Project in Nairobi (Mukuru and Kangemi) and rural marginal areas of Siaya. The areas in the two counties are contexts of high risks to HIV given the coexistence of both high HIV prevalence rates and high levels of poverty. Poverty and gendered economic inequalities render girls and young women economically vulnerable pushing them from education to employment, marriage or to engage in contractual sex hence increasing their susceptibility to contracting HIV.

GCN will establish Accelerated learning Centres in the two areas of operation to support adolescent girls and young women to transition into and remain in secondary education. Accelerated learning Centres will provide for the age and gender- specific needs of the target group through; an integrated package of accelerated education (Accelerated Learning Programme). The ALP is in line with existing government policy that promotes the transition, retention and completion of girls and young women in secondary schools. This will be done using a comprehensive, but tailored, curriculum that will enhance their livelihood prospects, as a Secondary Education Certificate is the standard that employers most frequently require.
